Do I need to create an account?

No. Koink works immediately with no sign-up. On first launch, you get an anonymous session and all features work offline. Your data stays on your device until you choose to sign in.

How do I sign in?

Tap your avatar on the Home screen, then tap "Sign in with Google." This enables cloud sync, group trips, and cross-device access. Your existing local data is automatically uploaded.

Is Koink free?

Yes. Koink is free to download and use. All core features — receipt scanning, budgeting, journaling, trip splits, and cloud sync — are included at no cost.

My scan didn't capture everything correctly

AI scanning works best with clear, well-lit photos on a flat surface. Avoid shadows and glare. You can always tap any field to manually correct the extracted data.

Does it work with receipts in other languages?

Yes. Koink's AI supports receipts in any language. You can also translate line items into your preferred language directly from the receipt view.

What data gets extracted from a receipt?

Merchant name, address, phone number, date, time, line items with quantities and prices, subtotals, taxes, discounts, service charges, totals, currency, payment method, and the last four digits of any card shown.

How do I set a monthly budget?

From the Home tab, tap "Budget" in the quick actions. Set your monthly amount and Koink will track your expenses against it with a visual spending ring.

Can I track debts?

Yes. In the Wallet tab, you can record money you've lent or borrowed. Each debt tracks the person's name, amount, and whether it's been settled.

Does Koink support multiple currencies?

Yes. You can set your preferred currency in Account settings. Receipts scanned in other currencies are captured as-is, and all formatting adapts to your chosen currency.

Can I use the journal without tracking finances?

Absolutely. The journal is completely independent. Write entries, tag moods, add locations, and use AI writing assistance — no receipt scanning or expense tracking required.

What is AI writing assistance?

When writing a journal entry, you can tap the AI button to get help expanding your thoughts, refining your writing, or generating prompts. It only activates when you explicitly use it.

Can I organize entries into different journals?

Yes. You can create multiple journals (e.g., "Travel," "Personal," "Work") and assign entries to any of them. Switch between journals from the Journals tab.

How do group trips work?

Create a trip, then tap "Make Group Trip" to generate an invite link. Share it with friends. Once they join and you approve, everyone can see shared splits and settle debts within the group.

How do I split a receipt?

After scanning a receipt, tap "Split." Add participants, then assign items to each person by tapping. Koink calculates each person's share including tax and tip automatically.

Can I export a trip summary?

Yes. From any trip, you can export a full summary as PDF or share it as text. This includes all receipts, splits, and who owes what.

Is my data encrypted?

Yes. All synced data is encrypted on your device using AES-256-GCM before being uploaded. Our servers only store encrypted ciphertext — not even we can read your data.

How do I sync across devices?

Sign in with Google on both devices. Your data syncs automatically. Your encryption key transfers securely so the new device can decrypt your data.

How do I delete my account?

Go to Account and scroll to the bottom. You can delete finance data only, journal data only, or your entire account. Account deletion permanently removes all cloud data, your encryption key, group memberships, and authentication records.

Does Koink track me?

No. Koink uses no analytics, no advertising identifiers, no crash reporting SDKs, and no tracking of any kind. Your device identifier is used solely for scan quota enforcement.
