Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Koink (“the App”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). The App is operated by Usap.io (“we,” “our,” or “us”). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.

2. Description of Service

Koink is a personal finance and journaling application that provides the following features:

  • AI receipt scanning: Photograph receipts and extract merchant details, line items, totals, taxes, discounts, and payment information using AI-powered optical character recognition and structured data parsing.
  • Wallet and budget tracking: Record income, expenses, and debt transactions. Set monthly budgets and track spending against them. View financial statements with opening and closing balances.
  • Personal journaling: Write journal entries with titles, body text, mood tags, and optional location tagging. Organize entries across multiple named journals. View entries in list, calendar, or map layouts.
  • AI writing assistance: Optionally use AI to help generate, continue, rewrite, or reflect on journal entries.
  • Trip expense splitting: Create trips, add participants, assign receipt items to individuals, and track settlements. Participants can be manually named or linked to other Koink users in group trips.
  • Group trips: Invite friends via invite links or QR codes. Share splits, track who owes what, and settle debts within the group.
  • Cloud sync: Optionally sync all data across devices by signing in with a Google account.
  • Receipt image storage: Optionally save receipt photos locally and to the cloud for later viewing. Optionally save receipt photos to your device's camera roll.
  • Receipt translation and categorization: Translate receipt items and auto-categorize transactions using AI.

3. User Accounts

3.1 Anonymous Use

You may use the App without creating a traditional account. On first launch, a pseudonymous session is created automatically. Anonymous users can access all core features except cloud sync and group trips.

3.2 Sign In

To enable cloud sync, group trips, and social features, you may sign in with your Google account. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. We are not responsible for unauthorized access resulting from compromised credentials.

3.3 Account Responsibility

You are responsible for all activity under your account, including data entered, splits created, and group interactions.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the App
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the App, its servers, or its APIs
  • Circumvent scan quotas, rate limits, or other usage limitations through account recreation, device manipulation, or automated means
  • Use automated means (bots, scrapers, scripts) to access the App or its API endpoints
  • Upload malicious, harmful, or fraudulent content through receipt scanning or any other feature
  • Impersonate other users or misrepresent your identity in group trips or friend connections
  • Use the group trip or friend features to harass, spam, or abuse other users

5. AI-Powered Features

5.1 Receipt Scanning

The App uses artificial intelligence to process receipt images and extract structured data. While we strive for accuracy, AI-generated results may contain errors. You are responsible for reviewing and verifying all extracted data before relying on it for financial record-keeping or any other purpose.

5.2 Journal AI Writing

The AI writing assistant processes your journal content only when you explicitly invoke it. AI-generated text is provided as a suggestion and may not reflect your intended meaning. You are responsible for reviewing and editing AI-generated content.

5.3 Categorization and Translation

AI-powered transaction categorization and receipt item translation are best-effort features. Results may be inaccurate and should be reviewed.

5.4 No Financial Advice

AI-generated insights, budget tracking, and spending summaries are informational tools only. They do not constitute financial, tax, or investment advice. Consult a qualified professional for financial decisions.

6. Scan Quotas and Usage Limits

Free users receive a limited number of receipt scans per month. Quotas are tracked at both the account level and device level. Scan quota records tied to your device persist even after account deletion to prevent abuse. Attempting to circumvent quotas may result in suspension of your access to scanning features.

7. Subscriptions and Purchases

7.1 Koink Premium

Koink offers optional paid subscriptions (monthly or yearly) that unlock higher usage limits. Subscriptions are processed and billed by Apple through the App Store. Subscription terms, pricing, and renewal policies are governed by Apple's terms.

7.2 Credit Packs

Koink offers consumable credit packs that provide additional receipt scans. Credits are non-refundable, do not expire, and are tied to your account. Credits are consumed before monthly allowances.

7.3 Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID settings. Upon cancellation, you retain access to premium features until the end of your current billing period. After that, your account reverts to the free tier. Unused credits are retained.

8. Group Trips and Social Features

8.1 Shared Data

When you participate in a group trip, the following information is visible to other group members: your display name, your role (owner or member), splits you create (including merchant name, receipt date, total amount, item assignments, and participant names), and settlement status.

8.2 Invite Links

Group trip invite links and connect codes can be shared by any group owner. Anyone with an invite link can request to join the group. You are responsible for sharing invite links only with intended recipients.

8.3 Group Owner Responsibilities

Group owners can approve or reject join requests and manage group membership. Group owners are responsible for managing access to their groups.

9. Intellectual Property

The App, including its design, features, code, branding, and documentation, is the property of Usap.io and is protected by intellectual property laws. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes.

Content you create within the App (receipts, journal entries, financial data, trip information) remains your property. By using cloud sync, you grant us a limited license to store and transmit your content solely to provide the Service. By using AI features, you grant us a limited license to transmit relevant content to our AI service providers solely to process your request.

10. Data and Privacy

Your use of the App is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes in detail how we collect, use, store, and protect your information, including specifics about third-party AI services, local storage, cloud sync, and your data rights.

11. Account Deletion

You may delete your account at any time through the App's settings. Account deletion permanently removes:

  • All cloud-synced data (receipts, receipt images, wallet, journals, trips, splits, preferences)
  • Your user profile and authentication records
  • All group memberships, friend connections, and shared splits
  • All friend requests and trip join requests

Device-level scan quota records are retained after account deletion to prevent quota abuse. Local data on your device is also cleared and you are returned to a fresh anonymous session.

12. Disclaimer of Warranties

The App is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

Specifically, we do not warrant that:

  • AI receipt scanning will produce perfectly accurate results
  • AI-generated journal content or categorizations will be correct
  • Cloud sync will be uninterrupted or error-free
  • The App will be compatible with all devices or iOS versions

Koink is not a financial advisor, accountant, or tax professional. The App provides tools for personal expense tracking and journaling and does not constitute financial, accounting, or tax advice.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Usap.io shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or revenue arising from:

  • Your use of or inability to use the App
  • Inaccurate AI-generated data or categorizations
  • Data loss due to device failure, cloud sync issues, or account deletion
  • Unauthorized access to your account due to compromised credentials
  • Actions taken by other users in group trips
  • Any financial decisions made based on information provided by the App

14. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the App at any time, with or without cause, including but not limited to violations of these Terms. You may stop using the App at any time and delete your account through the in-app settings.

15. Changes to Terms

We may modify these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated through the App or by updating the “Last updated” date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

16. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which Usap.io operates, without regard to conflict of law principles.
